The TradesCast for Week 50 - Dec. 9, 2012

Tom and Jeff have a lot to say, and much of it's about how TV should be changed with the major networks, and why things will change even if FOX, NBC, ABC and CBS don't want it. Tom is obsessed with Netflix, and they may be back in the game, thanks to Mickey Mouse. Those two items are simply the tip of the iceberg. It's cold and dangerous here at the Tradescast, so bundle up and have a listen!

The TradesCast for Week 49 - Dec. 2, 2012

Gina has the day off, but Dan Nelson is in the booth with Jeff to begin the year's last month, and to school the world on the fastest growing phenomenon in the world, which will be a big deal come Saturday. What is it? Let Dan educate you. It's not called Four's Company, but New Girl certainly feels like the wrong title. How's it going this season. Dan and Jeff discuss. Boardwalk Empire still is bringing it. So why has it cooled off with critics? All that and more, so tune in and get pumped!

The TradesCast for Week 45 - Nov. 25, 2012

Tom and Jeff love Lincoln, not the movie, but the president, and not because he was a good president, but because he was so attractive! That must be the reason everyone is going to see Lincoln - that and the amazing acting. On the other hand, no one appears to be watching Tom's favorite submarine TV show, and it's about to go bye-bye. Tom and Jeff get into those items and a lot more, so sit back and be prepared to have knowledge dropped on your foot!

The TradesCast for Week 43 - Nov. 11, 2012

Tom and Jeff are burned out on the election, but not on the ratings—or the Fox meltdown. But that's only the beginning. There's also a cool discussion about how moviegoers in the last few months has skewed older. Is it a trend? Tom and Jeff debate. Old people better get out of the way for a few weeks and vampire fans take over the theaters to get the last fix of Twilight. Don't worry old people. There's a place you can go on Friday nights. It's your TV, and there's new programming for you! All that and more, so have a listen!

The TradesCast for Week 41 - October 28, 2012

Tom and Jeff get foxy this week, which means ... well, they explain, or rather Tom does. It's kind of technical, but it means a lot of topics are on the table this week.
One topic is the election. No, Tom and Jeff are not endorsing a candidate. The discussion is the insane amount of ads, and using the media to help a candidate. Right now it seems the Hopper might be the big winner as everyone appears sick of all things election.

It's Halloween time, so get ready for some scary talk about how old CBS is getting, and how NBC may have made a pact with some evil source to be on top again. And that's only the beginning. It's a foxy week, so have at it!

The TradesCast for Week 39 - October 14, 2012

Tom and Jeff can't help themselves. They love TV - not only the good shows, but the ones that get canceled as well. Who is going to remember Made in Jersey in five years? Who remembers it now?
By the way, how many of you are watching TV live. That's so 2005. DVR is making a statement. Tom and Jeff fill you in on its impact.

It's Paranormal time. No other film franchise has ever been more impressive. It's the Star Wars of this era! OK, that's a bit much. But you spend a few million for this kind of return and it's like printing money! All that and more, so settle in and have a listen.

The TradesCast for Week 38 - October 7, 2012

Gina is back and she has a ton to say about the life of Lohan. It's an ugly world, but Gina and Jeff tell all.
Is reality TV finally going down tubes. No one is watching X Factor. Why is that?

Gina and Jeff talk about The Master, what works and what doesn't. Will The Master make waves come award time? Have a listen and we'll tell you.

Emms recap time. Some surprises, but mostly things went as planned. Sorry Mad Men, your time has come and gone.

Tom and Jeff also discuss the new choice for Oscars host. Is it a good choice?

And which show is going to get canceled first this season? Incredibly, it's not Revolution. All that and more, so have a listen!

The TradesCast for Week 38 - Sept. 16, 2012

Tom and Jeff love TV, which means the Fall brings with it the excitement of new programs - or the fear that all the programs look icky. For better or worse, all shows are mentioned, along with predictions about what will fly and what won't.

P.T. Anderson has a movie, so you need to go. We explain.

The TradesCast for Week 37 - Sept. 9, 2012

If it's Gina then gossip can't be far behind, so she and Jeff discuss the latest out-of-the-blue celeb marriage—and predict how long it will last.

But, mostly, this episode is about what an amazing season of movies appears to be heading this way. One movie sounds better than the last, and Jeff and Gina talk about all of them.

It's also new season time for TV, so reality TV is put under the microscope to see which will be a hit and which will be a miss. All that and more, so curl up with a Snuggie and listen!

Is Netflix going to become an also-ran to Amazon, or to some other company. Streaming is in, folks, and content is king.

Tom and Jeff miss Jerry Lewis at the telethon, though they don't know why. All that and more, so have a listen!

It's all Olympics all the time - at least for a few more days.

And Americans wouldn't be, well, American, without complaining about the tape delay. Tom and Jeff explain why tape delay is no big deal, and it's not hurting TV ratings one bit. The Olympics is hurting others in the entertainment world, though.

As a bonus, we look at the ongoing DISH-AMC battle, and wonder if it will ever end. NO time to wait. Have a listen now!

The TradesCast for Week 30 - July 22, 2012

A sad day in America's history is now linked - possibly forever - with a movie and its opening. Tom and Jeff discuss.

In much lighter news, Fred Willard was arrested in a place that only true Angelinos even know exists. The arrest seems odd, but the more surprising aspect is that is actually did damage Willard's career. Emmy nominations are here, and there's plenty to discuss, for example, why Big Bang Theory and not Happy Endings?!

And there's more. So click away and listen up.

Anger Management numbers drop, but will it matter to the show's life, and to Charlie Sheen's winning ways? We discuss.

But there are things for Jeff as well, including the death of one of his favorite TV stars, and the numbers for Charlie Sheen's new stab at TV.

But before talk about hunky guys and an annoying single lady, there's time to discuss the decline of Adam Sandler and Tom Cruise, the ousting of Oprah, and the private life of Johnny Depp.

The TradesCast for Week 24 - June 10, 2012

Tom and Jeff wonder about things - specifically is the DVR going to kill the commercial? And if it does, will every single thing you see in a TV show be a product placement? We know you wonder too, so we discuss it for you. The Tony Awards are tonight, and don't say it's only a New York thing. These shows tour, people, and one day your community theater will be doing a production of Clybourne Park, only they probably will do a poor job with it, which is a shame because it's great! Jeff got to speak to Ray Bradbury and was honored to do so. Read him or not, like him or not, you can't deny his influence. So pay some respect! What the heck is going to happen with Rock of Ages this week? We have no idea! All that and more, so hit mute on the TV and turn us up!

Coming up - the Lone Ranger and Night Stalker. Speaking of movies based on crazy things, how about Battleship actually not doing all that well. Did American temporarily get smart? The TradesCast for Week 19 - May 6, 2012

Apparently The Avengers is the recipient of the multiple effect. Anyone who likes even one of these superheros apparently went to the movie this weekend, though Tom and Jeff are waiting until the crowds die down, because, well, they are old. But Iron Man and company is hardly the only news this week. Cougar Town may have a new home, assuming ABC has the guts to drop it and assume another show will come along. Perhaps the network execs don't recall the Geico Caveman sitcom. TV is getting stranger, but Tom has unearthed a stat that is flat out crazy. Another celeb death in the music world, this one way before its time. All that and more, so have a listen!

The TradesCast for Week 18 - April 29, 2012

Wherever there is gossip, Gina and Jeff are there to delve into it, and this week the hot topic is a potential romance between Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. MJ's former bodyguard is telling all, or at least he's telling some. Perhaps all will come in a book of some sort. But Gina and Jeff are more than wacky tales of possible celeb romances. Other topics today are the FCC's unusual demand of Comcast when the cable giant took over NBCUniversal, which summer blockbuster will come out on top and all that's going down on The Voice. There's more, but you'll have to tune in to find out what!

Gina and Jeff admit this is an odd episode because it's all over the map. One second we dive into the wacky world of Steve Harvey and his book/movie about his book. The next second we are looking at the hottest couples in L.A. Speaking of L.A., it's the 20th anniversary of the L.A. riots, so we take a moment to discuss. Yes, we talk Dick Clark, but we try to keep things light. Yes, there are other wacky things on the bill, so have a listen and enjoy!

There are some new shows, including The B in 23, and Girls. What will make it? And exactly who will watch it?

It's no April Fools joke that Keith Olbermann got fired, though it does seem crazy to think that not long ago he and Rosie were set to be the big fish in small entertainment ponds. What went wrong? Tom and Jeff discuss.

Also, after some in-depth research Tom and Jeff discover exactly who is not going to the movies like they once did, and possibly why.

It's a new season, finally, for Mad Men, and for The Killing. Will one of these be treated like an outcast (hint: it's The Killing)?

In the TV realm we talk highs and lows of TLC, which is making a name for itself as a the circus freak channel. What does that mean? Gina and Jeff explain.

Good-bye Rosie Show. We hardly knew you. But what we did know was a mess. Tom and Jeff get into that mess, along with what's going on with The Killing and Mad Men, both of which are returning.

Anyone of the right age was a 21 Jump Street fan. But apparently you don't have to even know about it to be a fan of the new movie. It's killing at the box office. Speaking of the box office, there's a new trend, and we discuss. It's interesting!

The TradesCast for Week 11 - March 11, 2012

We were longtime fans of Davey Jones, and it's sure a shocker that he died, but not nearly as shocking as the story centering on his funeral. Jeff and Gina discuss.

Did you see Lohan on SNL? We did. Yikes.

The box was was filled with bombs and duds, and a couple show that star power fades fast.

And as soon as you thought the changes in the Rosie Show were over, she's at it again. Leave well enough alone, we say.

Even more odd is how The Vow tops the box office again.

The TradesCast for Week 7 - Feb. 12, 2012

Obviously, you can't have a cast this week without talking Whitney. Yes, it's sad. But we don't want any crocodile tears from people who have been making fun of her for the last decade or so. She was a wreck. But before the voice went, she sure could sing.

Her death meant big ratings for the Grammys, and we discuss all aspects of the show.

Also, we delve deep into the dark recesses of vocal frying. What is it? Tune it to find out.

Valentine's Day weekend means dates, and young single ladies want a tearjerker--it shows in this week's box office.

And what podcast would be complete without some Oprah talk. We hate to say it folks, but she's sounding desperate.

Speaking of the big game, we discuss whether or not $3.5 mil per commercial is worth it, and if the halftime shows are ever fun.

But that's just the beginning.

We also look at some key changes in a few highly-touted TV shows, and one that seems like it has been dead for years.

Also, we discuss the legacy of Don Cornelius, who brought us lots of soul.

The TradesCast for Week 5 - Jan. 29, 2012

Picking one juicy gossip item to start off the cast this week is no easy chore, as Hollywood is nuts. But Gina has the scoop on the biggie, and she has some insight on what might be behind a wild night for an A-lister.

Idol's back folks. Are people watching it, and its new companion on Thursdays, The Finder? We've got the scoop. Also, NBC may even have a hit with a certain wacky drama.

But that's just a starter. We also talk Tom Cruise's continuing viability, and we make predictions for the top movie of 2012.

TV begins its "second season" this week, and we scourer the networks to tell you what's up.

And with Sundance coming, we have some interesting info about where you might be seeing some of these entries in the future, and it's not at your local theater.
