The TradesCast for Week 50 - December 14, 2014

If you've been under a rock, or out of the country, then you don't know there's problems in Hollywood, and we're not talking The Interview. Perhaps North Korea should stop the release of Unbroken because, unlike Jeff's prediction, things are not looking good for the epic. No Globe nominations and tepid reviews at best. Eek. Speaking of tepid, Peter Pan Live came and went and no one cared. Well, that's not actually true, but it seems like that. The year is ending, and so is the Colbert Report. In a year, who will be missed more, Colbert's alter-ego, or Letterman. Jeff and Tom discuss all this and plenty more!

The TradesCast for Week 48 - November 30, 2014

Marco? Polo? When I hear the name I think pool games, not a $90 million Netflix series meant to have the American company explode worldwide. Will it work? Jeff and Tom talk it out. Speaking of talk, everyone is talking about the talking on the podcast Serial. Is it a flash in the pan or the next biggest thing in casting? It looks like 3D is here to stay in some way, but what about 4D? It's here, at least in L.A., and it might bring the kids back to the theater. All that and more, so get over that Thanksgiving tummy ache and have a listen!

The TradesCast for Week 46 - November 16, 2014

Here comes winter, and with it the big time movies for Oscar contention. But how come the kids these days don't want to watch things big? It's all small screen and Interweb and such. So net neutrality is worth watching closely, and Tom and Jeff are here to break it down for you. Speaking of going small, the small screen small network AMC is doing some oddly large stuff, not with what they're showing but with what they're not. If that doesn't make any sense, then have a listen and the guys will explain. All that and more, so have a listen and learn some stuff!

The TradesCast for Week 44 - November 2, 2014

If it's appointment TV it must be live - and someone must be about to die. Tom and Jeff talk about the crazy Nik Wallenda, and whether risking death is what it takes to draw people to the small screen. Or will NBC continue with a show about space flight for the average Joe, if one of those Joes dies while filming. Speaking of death in a lighter way, NBC has opted to off a couple of its new comedies already. So much for trying to find an audience. Also at an end is Mr. Colbert and his Report. How will his replacement do, and how will be do as a replacement for the grumpy Letterman? all that and more, so don't die - live to click another day!

CBS and HBO may finally be the last straw that broke cable's back. Oh, don't worry. Cable will still get your money through internet service, but you finally may be going pure a la carte for your content needs. Is it worth it? Is it good? Tom and Jeff explain. Also, why can't President Obama agree with his FCC guy, and will they have to duke it out in some alley over the net being neutral? TV ratings mean so much, so why were they so wrong? All that and more, so don't be uninformed. Be ... formed ... by clicking!

The TradesCast for Week 32 - August 10, 2014

There's good new and bad news. The good news, Tom and Jeff hope, is that the Internet looks like it might remain as neutral as it has been, thanks in part to some mega-mergers that have gone south. On the minus side, the annual box office looks like it will not make up for lost summer ground thanks to a lack of fall major openings. Still, there have been some wonderful options for adult viewers, including Boyhood, which Tom and Jeff discuss. Speaking of boyhood, the forever boy - usually played by a girl - Peter Pan, has been cast, and the guys debate whether the choice was a wise one. And the cast wouldn't be complete without some Netflix chat, and the folks at the company have some great news for them and some not so great news for HBO. In other words, there's a lot of news this week, so get informed by clicking now!

If you can only make one movie, make it a religious one, because if Son of God is any indication, you can make a fortune replaying a low budget made-for-TV series. Why? Tom and Jeff explain. Speaking of movies, what's the deal with slow rollouts? They seem to work occasionally, but usually they stop the average person from ever seeing a good film. Also, the guys say bye-bye to Piers. The TradesCast for Week 9 - March 2, 2014

It's Oscar time, and Jeff and Gina are left feeling a little ... what's the word ... unsatisfied. The winners were fine and the movies were fine, but this felt like a poorly run dress rehearsal with enough uncomfortable moments to fill a season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. A few years from now, all anyone will remember is that John Travolta can't find 21st century hair, or pronounce a pretty easy name. And that's only the beginning! Time to listen!
